Texas teachers learn computer science!

The UT Dallas WeTeach_CS Collaborative is accepting applications for the January through August 2018 program! The program is FREE for teachers interested in computer science.

Tracks

This year we have two tracks:

  • CS Certification Track: This track is aimed at helping teachers prepare for the TEXES 241 CS Certification Exam
  • STEM Teacher Track: for STEM teachers who want to incorporate programming into their classroom

Professional Development Options

Each participant is required to complete at least 60 hours of professional development. You may choose from the following professional development opportunities:

Other PD opportunities may be added during the program. Graduate School Credit Computer Science for STEM Teachers I, II, and Application topics may be taken for graduate credit towards the Masters of Arts and Teaching degree (NOT REQUIRED for participation in the program). Limited scholarship funding is available for participants who wish to enroll for graduate credit. Application Please apply online at https://tinyurl.com/utdwtcs2018. Who is eligible?

To enroll, you must be a teacher certified in math or science.

Is prior programming experience required?

No! We will start with the basics.

Eligibility for graduate credit

Both courses will be eligible for graduate credit towards the Masters of Arts in Teaching for either Science Education or Math Education. Some scholarships are available for those who wish to enroll for graduate credit, but it is not required to participate in the program.

Grant funding

The UT Dallas WeTeach_CS Collaborative is made possible by grants from our funders, The WeTeach_CS project at the The Center for STEM Education at UT Austin and Texas Instruments. The project team is a mix of faculty from the UT Dallas Department of Science/Mathematics Education, Master of Arts in Teaching Programs, UTeach Dallas, and the UT Dallas Department of Computer Science. Dr. Mary Urquhart, Head of Science/Mathematics Education, is the Project Director. Georgia Stuart is Lead Instructor and Project Co-Director.
